Life Fitness kits out gym facility at new high school |

Oriel High School, Maidenbower, Crawley, one of the country’s newest schools, completed the installation of a range of Life Fitness cardiovascular and strength training equipment in December 2004. Built by construction company HBG at a cost of £20 million, the school is part of the £60 million Private Finance Initiative (PFI) which is set to change the face of education in Crawley.
The new High School caters for students from 11 to 18 years and the first intake of 480 pupils, comprising two year groups, were received by the school in September 2004. By 2008, the school will have 1,480 students, including a sixth form.
As well as providing fantastic sports facilities for pupils, Oriel High School was developed under the Crawley Borough Council remit of leisure services provision for local residents. The extensive community use facilities include a health and fitness suite, dance studio, floodlit artificial turf pitch, tennis courts and sports hall.
The health and fitness suite, HPG Fitness, has been equipped with a full range of Life Fitness’ Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) treadmills, cross-trainers, steppers and Lifecycles. In addition, there is a comprehensive collection of thirteen resistance machines from Life Fitness’ Pro 2 Series, Hammer strength benches, a wide selection of dumbbells and barbells and two cable motion strength machines.
Rob Austin, HBG Leisure Development Manager, said: “Working to a tight budget meant that our decision to choose Life Fitness CPO equipment was largely based on the fact that it fitted in to the right price bracket. Having said that, perhaps more importantly, we knew that this competitive pricing did not mean that we would have to compromise on quality – to settle for anything less would have been simply unacceptable for this important project.”
