Iwan Thomas Opens Gym at Roke Manor Research
Roke Manor Research opened a new Life Fitness equipped gym last year as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. The 100 sq m facility is a gift to the 425 employees who work for the company, after a thorough consultation and voting process decided what they would like to do to mark the occasion. The facility was officially opened by Olympic medallist, Iwan Thomas, as part of a series of events to commemorate the company reaching its half century.
Part of Siemens, Roke is the organisation’s only research and development site in the UK. The gym is attached to the Sports and Social club pavilion located within the 22 acre estate near Romsey in Hampshire. It features 27 pieces of equipment from Life Fitness including Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) cardiovascular machines, strength products from the Pro2SE range and free weights. The gym is open 24 hours a day 364 days a year. Members pay a minimal monthly contribution to cover running costs and maintenance.
Janine Dann, Treasurer of the Sports and Social Club Committee, explains: “We chose to work with Life Fitness because they offered a high quality product and excellent value for money. We also felt that they had a good understanding of what we were looking for and wanted to achieve with the gym.”
Janine continues: “We took Life Fitness’ advice as to what equipment to choose based on the profile of our employees and level of usage, as well as the space and budget available. We have been very pleased with the service we have received.”
The new gym expands the spectrum of activities offered through the active Sports and Social Club on the site. As a responsible employer, Roke is keen to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, encourage relaxation, minimise stress levels and reduce absenteeism amongst its staff.
Janine adds: “We are delighted with the response to the gym. In the first month of opening over 25% of our employees have signed up as members and have been inducted on to the equipment. Feedback from users has been very positive – the equipment and size of facility has definitely exceeded all our expectations.”
