First Summit Trainers Supplied to Isle of Man
The National Sports Centre on the Isle of Man will complete the final phase of its five year rolling refurbishment programme this month, with the installation of 11 pieces of Life Fitness cardiovascular equipment, including a Dual Adjustable Pulley.
The new selection includes two Treadmills, three Cross-Trainers, three Upright Lifecycles, and three Summit Trainers, the newest CV product in the Life Fitness range, as part of its 38 station fitness area.
Simon Walmsley, Assistant Manager of the National Sports Centre, says: “Having undertaken a thorough tender process, we chose to work with Life Fitness on account of both the quality and the aesthetics of the equipment.”
The National Sports Centre is the main community sport and leisure facility for the 80,000 people who live on the Isle of Man. As such, it is a focal point for community sport and sports development on the island, a Centre of Excellence for developing talent and also a tourist attraction.
The first phase of the £20m development was the athletics stadium, which opened in 1991. It features a six-lane 400m floodlit track and 500-seat grandstand. In 1998, phase two was completed and included the swimming pools, ten-badminton court Main Sports Hall and Health and Fitness Suite. The final phase in 2001 saw the addition of an indoor Bowls Hall, second Sports Hall comprising four badminton courts and six squash courts.
Simon continues: “As a flagship facility, we are keen to provide our users with a diverse range of the latest, top-of-the-range machines. We are also the first centre on the island to install the new Summit Trainers, which gives us a unique point of difference from other operators. Although the Disability Discrimination Act does not come into effect on the Isle of Man until 2008, we are following best practice from the UK and are already making preparations towards IFI accreditation.”
Andy Gill, Territory Manager for Life Fitness, adds: “This is a very prestigious complex and an integral part of life on the Isle of Man. I’m very pleased to have been involved with this project and am sure that the Centre’s users will enjoy and benefit from exercising on these new machines.”
