High School of Dundee Installs Life Fitness

HIGH SCHOOL OF DUNDEE INSTALLS LIFE FITNESS

The High School of Dundee opened the Mayfield Sports Centre on Arbroath Road last year. The £3m development includes a large multi-purpose sports hall, a smaller gym, dance studio and Life Fitness equipped Fitness Suite.

The 75 sq m gym facility consists of three Lifecycles, two Treadmills, two Cross-Trainers and a Concept2 rowing machine, together with seven resistance machines from the FIT Series.

Bruce Beckett, Director of Sport at Dundee High, explains: “Participation in sport at the school has increased significantly since we opened the new sports centre. We have incorporated use of the Fitness Suite into the curriculum, and even pupils who do not normally enjoy PE have been motivated to join in, which is great to see. It’s also enabled us to add to and vary the number of extra curricular activities we offer too.”

Bruce continues: “Rugby is a major sport in our school, so having our own fitness suite is an enormous benefit. The students are currently following weight training programmes in the Fitness Suite in preparation for our tour to South Africa later this year.”

The High School of Dundee is the city’s only independent school. It caters for approximately 1,000 students aged five to 18 across the junior and senior schools. The sports facilities are available for use by local clubs and organisations, while there are also coaching programmes and summer schools run for children in the area.
